Teaching and Research Activities of Teachers between DSH and Glashan School

On the afternoon of March 15, a teaching and research exchange activity between Chinese and Canadian teachers was held in the conference room between the key teachers of Dongshahu School of SIP and Glashan School of Canada.

Under the guidance of He Jipei, director of the Academic Affairs Office of junior high school, the teaching exchange activity started smoothly. At the beginning of the meeting, He warmly welcomed Canadian teachers. Then, Mr. Jim Tayler, the school principals of Glashan School, introduced Canada’s geography and humanities, Ottawa’s teaching methods and modern education ideas to the DSH teachers. As one of the most experienced principals of the Ottawa Bureau of education, Mr. Tayler quickly made it familiar to the DSH teachers with the general situation of education in Canada.

Next, Mr. Mark Wilson gave a special lecture on Mathematics and comprehensive research. Mr. Wilson integrated history and geography into the language curriculum. In his presentation, he showed the modern teaching methods in the field of Canadian education.

Having been teaching the comprehensive research courses in Grade Seven and the immersion teaching in English and France in Grade Eight, Ms. Sharon Kuiper is the school’s leader in the use of technology. She shared many teaching practices combined with modern technology, such as using Google map to learn knowledge points, and showed how to conduct group cooperative learning in Canada.

As a learning resource teacher, Ms. Ruth Elias, who has worked for many years, is responsible for consulting students and helping them solve problems. At the same time, she also introduced how to carry out extracurricular practice activities.

Then, on the topic of the struggle of the head teacher, Mr. Lu Yun, the representative of the excellent class teacher in our school, shared his happiness as a head teacher to Canadian teachers from the three levels of children, parents and selfwith the keywords of company, courtesy and autonomy. Miss Huang Quanbo is an experienced mathematics teacher in our school. She shared her experience in mathematics teaching from the aspects of teacher growth, learning content, learning methods. Miss Yang Yu introduced the geography teaching in our school logically, reflecting the rationality and logic of teaching. The English teacher Xue Juan illustrated her ideas on the knowledge system and teaching methods of English subject in junior high school.

Through the teaching seminar of Chinese and Canadian teachers, we can feel the different teaching methods of teachers in different countries and the different teaching effects produced by different teaching strategies. But in the differences, there are similarities. In this way, we can learn from each other and communicate with each other, stimulate the spark of innovation in the constant ideological collision, reach the optimal teaching consensus, and better serve the development of students.
